Working with Families & Parents
The family system is a significant aspect of the challenges experienced by children, adolescents and even adults
For meaningful progress, it’s crucial to involve the family in the therapeutic process. The level of family involvement will depend on the specific challenges being addressed, but working together as a family can create a stronger foundation for change and growth.
Family Therapy
Family therapy provides a safe and supportive space for families to work through challenges and improve communication. Whether addressing issues like conflict, communication breakdowns, behavioral concerns, or major life transitions, family therapy allows everyone to be heard and involved in finding solutions. By exploring family dynamics and understanding each member's perspective, we can work together to strengthen relationships, build trust, and create a more harmonious family environment.
Co-Parenting Counseling
Separation and divorce can be deeply painful and challenging for everyone involved. When parents are divorced or separated, finding common ground on parenting issues can be difficult. I offer co-parenting counseling to help mediate differences and foster healthier communication between parents, ultimately creating a more consistent and nurturing environment for the children.
Anxiety
I have been trained in SPACE (Supportive Parenting for Anxious Childhood Emotions) treatment. SPACE is a parent-based treatment program developed by Dr. Eli Lebowitz at the Yale Child Study Center for children and adolescents with anxiety, OCD and related problems. Parents participate in SPACE treatment sessions, in most cases the child or adolescent does not need too attend the treatment sessions. I meet with parents for about 12 sessions and develop a plan with parents to respond more supportively to their anxious child and to reduce the accommodations they have been making to the child symptoms.
Working with Cindy…
“Cindy is a voice of reason! She’s an excellent listener and brings both her expertise and personal experience to bear. Cindy is someone who cares. It made my life easier knowing I would get useful feedback on my struggles as a mother of three small children whenever I walked into her office and saw her smiling face.”
